Krabi Cookery School

Chop, chop. Bang, bang. Today Ann-Kristin, Zoe, Jack S, Ellie and I took a Thai cooking class. It was taught by Ya (Chonlaya Laotong) a famous Thai chef who taught cranky Grodon Ramsey how to cook Thai food. It was set in a large covered outdoor kitchen. We learned how to make curry pastes from scratch, green, red, yellow, panang and masaman curries, tam yum shrimp soup, coconut chicken soup, fried rice, pad thai noodles, cashew chicken, sweet and sour chicken, chicken mint salad, papaya salad, and chicken with holy basil. We got to eat everything, and it was so good. I loved learning how to make curry pastes.

While we waited for the last 2 students, Ya talked to our group about the recent death of her mother, Buddhism, afterlife, death, funeral customs, and parental respect. Very interesting. She's quite a character.
